What is madero therapy?
Madero therapy or wood therapy is becoming more and more popular. It is a form of massage that was developed in Colombia, and in which special massagers made exclusively of natural material, more precisely wood, are used to perform the movement. Although most women opt for this massage to get rid of cellulite, it is also useful for back pain and detoxification in general.
This type of massage with special rolls is also called Colombian madero therapy. We will dedicate this text the most to her, but we will also briefly describe other types.
How is madero therapy done and why is it so popular?
The first thing that is characteristic of madero therapy is the specific set of equipment that is used during the treatment. There are about 20 wooden massage tools so to speak, and most are reminiscent of modified carved rolls and rollers. We will explain how certain parts of that equipment work, look and how they are used. In essence, they are a kind of cellulite massager made of wood.
Madero therapy is done with natural materials. The name itself comes from the Spanish word “madera” which means “wood”. As we said, this treatment has different applications, and we will look at breaking cellulite.
What madero therapy actually does is stimulate the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is responsible for expelling toxins from our body. When he has weakened due to bad life habits, poor diet, and insufficient movement, and when the lymph in him does not move, the toxins remain trapped in him and he does not do his job.
When we say toxins, we mean all the excess that we have in one way or another entered the body, not just some obviously harmful and dangerous substances. Excess fat, excess sugar, and excess food additives also remain trapped in our body, and together they create fat layers that look like orange peel – cellulite.
That is why the stimulation of the lymphatic system is an extremely important step when we try to get rid of this cosmetic nightmare, and anti cellulite massage with rolling pins has exactly that role – it stimulates lymph flow with even, rhythmic movements and a kind of lymphatic drainage. This also activates the metabolism and the body begins to work faster on the elimination of fat layers, toxins, and even cellulite.
How does madero therapy work?
This very popular technique activates microcirculation. It works by breaking all fat nodules with it, as with any massage. When we say nodules, we mean those bumps that cellulite creates on the skin.
By constantly stimulating these parts, the lymph flows much faster and it is much easier to get rid of toxins from the body. In that sense, it is very effective to practice a healthy and balanced diet rich in fiber, like anti cellulite diet, in addition to madero therapy, which is very useful.
If you combine madero therapy with a good diet and large amounts of water, then you are well on your way to completely removing cellulite from critical areas.
Madero therapy bruises and other side effects
Although this is a very popular method of removing cellulite and it looks easy and simple, we are obliged to mention that madero therapy can have some contraindications in the wrong hands.
In clumsy hands and with self-proclaimed experts for this type of massage, tissue injuries can occur. You may not really have bleeding wounds, but it is not impossible that madero therapy and bruises go in a package. This should not happen and that is why it is very important that the massage is performed by someone who is trained for this.
Madero therapy and veins
Although there are cases when some people perform rough massages on people who have varicose veins, conscientious therapists will not do that.
This form of massage is not for people who have varicose veins, nor for those who have cracked capillaries on their legs who are more likely to develop bruises.
Also, it is not recommended to work with people who have injuries on the skin.
Does madero therapy hurt?
If you’ve watched at least one video showing how madero therapy is performed and what the rolls look like, then you’ve probably wondered if maderotherapy hurts.
Here’s the thing:
Madero therapy is not a pleasant relax massage, but its goal is to break down cellulite and strengthen the skin. In order to achieve that goal, you need to be a little rougher and it may happen that this treatment does not give you pleasure. Still, don’t give up! Real enjoyment follows only after the treatment when you see the results in the mirror! This again does not mean that you should suffer severe pain and get bruises from madero therapy. In any good salon, they will approach each patient individually and will first assess what type of cellulite you have. Stubborn fibrous cellulite and watery cellulite are not treated with the same pressure! Also, we do not all have the same pain tolerance.
This massage is not suitable for everyone. People who have a low pain tolerance will not enjoy it at all.
Types of madero therapy
Although it is most popular for eliminating cellulite on the legs and thighs, in this way different regions can be targeted and can have different purposes.
We distinguish the following three types :
Madero facial therapy
Smaller rollers and massagers made of wood massage the face and in that way stimulate circulation, improve the production of collagen and elastin in the skin. The result is fewer wrinkles, elimination of puffy bags under the eyes, reduction of the chin, fresher, and healthier looking skin.
Madero body therapy
It refers primarily to body shaping, tightening of the thighs, and especially in those persons in whom excess fat layers accumulate irregularly on only one part of the body. For some, the problem is fat on the stomach, some on the hips, while their stomach is completely flat. This is a way to treat only the problem region and reduce fat on only that part of the body.
Brazilian madero therapy
As madero therapy became more popular, new techniques of wood massage began to develop. Have you heard of vacuum cellulite massage? Well, Brazilian madero therapy is just that, with the vacuum effect being created with the help of special wooden cups. In this way, blood and lymph circulation is stimulated in the problem region, metabolism is accelerated and the accumulation of fat layers and toxins that are the basis of cellulite is prevented. You will also find that this style is called Cuban madero therapy.
Anti-cellulite massage with a rolling pin – Colombian madero therapy
Appropriate pressure on the pockets of fat cells that form cellulite breaks down its structure and the lymphatic system removes parts of the decomposed fat from the body over time. It is used on all parts of the body affected by this problem.
Now let’s explain to you why it’s important for this to be done by an expert.
Each roll for madero therapy has its own shape and different purpose. And here’s how they are used!
Massage rolls – use
We have already said that this massage is specific for the equipment used. Although you can find larger sets (with 20 rolls) and smaller ones, the most commonly used accessories include the following:
- Ribbed rolling pin
- Cube roll
- Swedish suction cup
- Contouring board
And here’s a brief how they are used:
First of all, it is important to apply massage oil. Massaging on dry skin would be painful to do with your fingers, let alone rolls that have furrows and bumps. If the equipment does not slide on the surface of the skin, injuries that are more serious than bruises could occur.
By applying anti cellulite oil, light movements of the hands prepare the body for massage and stimulate circulation. When it comes to cellulite, it is best to choose a natural oil that has a destructive effect on fat layers.
Massage with an uneven, ribbed rolling pin is usually the beginning of the treatment.
The movements are always in one direction and move towards the lymph nodes, that is, they go in the direction of lymph flow, and that is very important.
In other words, if you are doing a massage of the thighs and legs, that is, the lower part of the body, then you are doing movements upwards. If you are massaging the upper part of the body, you go with movements downwards. There are several different types of these rolls. Wider and narrower (intended for, say, hands, and smaller body surfaces), with larger or smaller irregularities, from those similar to thorns to almost completely smooth.
This roll is used to heat and prepare fat layers for a more severe attack on them.
Cube rolling massage is intended for breaking down stubborn fat layers and large cellulite. It is especially used where there are fat layers in large quantities – for cellulite on the buttocks (when the goal of treatment is shaping the buttocks), thighs, and possibly on the abdomen. This rolling pin seems to be the most painful, but that is why it is applied to the parts of the body where the pain is least felt.
Swedish cup massage is used for deep massage. These wooden cups can be with a roller in the middle or without and as the name suggests – they are not rolling pins! They are smaller and can be used two at a time (one in each hand). They work by creating a vacuum in the treated area. Their use affects the deeper layers of fat layers, which are extracted to the surface by vacuuming and broken up by a roller. This is one type of vacuum massage against cellulite! For water cellulite they will not be needed as much as for some more stubborn form of cellulite.
This is mostly the final move in madero therapy. The contouring board is a wooden board, of a specific shape, intended for shaping contours. This piece of equipment for madero therapy aims to chase the broken fat layers towards the digestive tract and accelerate their expulsion from the body. That is why it is important again that the movements are correctly directed – when the lower parts of the body, then to the higher and vice versa. These boards can be found in a variety of shapes and sizes.
This is just the basics. A good therapist will apply other rolls as needed, all depending on the stage of cellulite he is trying to eliminate!
Madero therapy oils
Massage, whatever it may be, you can’t do “dry”. That is why special massage oils are used. As this type of therapy involves breaking down cellulite, so oils should be intended for that. Special mixtures intended for salons can be found on sale. We will, as a good thing, single out:
- Ivy oil against cellulite
- Adriatic oil
- Coconut oil
Is Madero Therapy Safe In Pregnancy?
Pregnancy is a special condition when you need to pay attention to many things. This also applies to madero therapy.
Although many massages are not recommended during pregnancy, you can do leg therapy, while abdominal therapy is strictly forbidden !!! You should not treat the stomach at that time, and do not overdo the madero therapy of other parts of the body. However, we would not recommend this to you. Madero therapy of the thighs requires lying on the stomach and rough movements that will not be pleasant for you.
You can also do facial maderotherapy during pregnancy.
Madero therapy for men
Although they are not prone to cellulite, the accumulation of toxins in certain parts of the body is also present in men. That is why madero therapy is also recommended for men.
If you notice an accumulation of water somewhere, and these are most often the legs and abdomen, several madero therapies are recommended at intervals of 2-3 days and the problem will be solved.
How often is madero therapy done?
For the best results, it is recommended to do two series of at least 10 treatments. One treatment lasts from half an hour to 45 minutes.
Is madero therapy done every day?
No! This means doing two treatments a week. So 5 weeks and after that rest for a month, and then repeat the procedure.
When a little more than three months have passed, then the results will be most visible.
Can a rolling pin massage make you lose weight?
Not really, but it’s a good ally if you’re already on that path because it speeds up your metabolism.
Is madero therapy feasible at home?
Although it seems easy and interesting, it may occur to you to do this for someone at home, think carefully beforehand.
You can do madero therapy at home only if you have previously attended training in one of the salons, and many offer you this opportunity.
Although this treatment would be good for relaxation, regardless of the fact that you have no experience, you can harm the person you are massaging because you need to know in which direction to move, in what way and how many times. Especially if you want to achieve appropriate results in this area.
Madero therapy before and after – results
Madero therapy gives great results that can be seen after 4-5 treatments.
Effects you can expect:
- less visible cellulite
- skin tightening
- contouring – back loins, waist, hips, abdomen, arms and even face
- relaxation and pain relief
- excretion of toxins
- expelling excess water from the body
- faster metabolism
As with most treatments, don’t expect instant cellulite recede. Madero therapy requires discipline and a certain number of repetitions. Nothing is possible overnight, not even this.
Make sure to schedule the madero therapy treatments so that they are repeated at shorter intervals, just enough so that the cellulite does not relax.
In the meantime, by no means overdo it with fats and carbohydrates, because in that way you are only retaliating against the one who is doing the therapy. In doing so, it would be good to exercise, that is, to insert some activity. It can also be a walk.
The result will not be missed.
Madero therapy – experience and price
Is it as effective as claimed?
Experiences with madero therapy are mostly positive! Users claim that it hurts a bit but the pain is bearable. On the other hand, the results will be visible and the body will be tighter, and cellulite less visible. No wonder this anti cellulite treatment has become such a hit. Some claim that it is more pleasant than an ordinary hand massage against cellulite. For more information and experiences, it is not bad to inquire about madero therapy on forums.
There are many ways to reshape the body and get rid of cellulite and not everyone has to be in pain. Liposuction can also be dangerous. However, we do suggest some simpler methods like cellulite exercises, madero therapy, and regular use of cellulite gel.
Experience has shown that this therapy is very powerful, even up to several times better than the classic anti cellulite massage. Of course, if you really want to get rid of cellulite and go to madero therapy with that goal, then you should know that you will not achieve anything if you return to the old, bad eating habits. So make sure you are physically active and switch to an anti-cellulite diet. Otherwise, by choosing the wrong food, you return to the body the toxins that you tried to get rid of with the massage. No point, right?
In addition to the fact that this is a great way to reduce cellulite, this treatment has been especially good at removing excess water from the body, and in that sense, this therapy brings real relief. For some, this is a real pleasure and mental and physical relaxation.
And at what price?
A little inconvenience and some money. The price of madero therapy ranges around $50 for 1 treatment. And as at least 10 treatments are recommended, the price will be approximately $400 to $500 for one session.
Since it improves lymph flow and blood flow, removes toxins, has a good effect on overall health, this is something worth trying – whether you have cellulite or not! Provided that you do not have wounds, varicose veins, or something else.
After the treatment, since this is a kind of lymphatic drainage, it is necessary to take in a lot of fluids. Physical activity is desirable, but not excessive, especially not immediately after treatment. Just rest that day!
